The call for the third cohort of the One Planet Fellowship is now open for applications. The One Planet Fellowship seeks to build a vibrant, highly connected, and inter-generational network of African and European scientists equipped to use a gender lens to help Africa’s smallholder farmers adapt to a changing climate.

I. Benefits

• During the Fellowship, participants gain leadership, scientific research, networking, and mentoring skills. It is expected that these skills will help participants to advance in their careers by increasing their confidence and visibility.
• The Fellowship will also create a vibrant, highly connected, and intergenerational network among African and Europeans scientists to lead the next-generation research focused on helping Africa’s smallholder farmers adapt to climate change.

II. Eligibility criteria

To be eligible for the One Planet Fellowship, the applicants should:

• Be a citizen of: Algeria, Benin, Burkina Faso, Côte d'Ivoire, Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi, Mali, Morocco, Nigeria, Senegal, Tanzania, Togo, and Zambia
• Be 40 years of age or younger by February15, 2021
• Have completed at least a master’s degree or equivalent in any discipline relevant to climate change with focus on agriculture and food systems.
• Reside in Africa and be actively engaged in research, policy and/or practice relevant to climate change and Africa’s smallholder agriculture.

III. Pre-conditions for participation in theOne Planet Fellowship

The successful applicants will be confirmed upon:

• Submission and verification of the details of relevant authorities and formal endorsement by the home institution
• Submission and verification of the required documentation to confirm the Fellowship offer. This documentation primarily includes copies of passport and academic certificates obtained
• Acceptance of the AWARD’s code of conduct.
• Timely, official communication to AWARD on the participation in any other capacity building programs

IV. Important dates

• Call for applications open: 30 November 2020
• Deadline: 15 February 2021
• Pre-selection: Mid Feb.-March2021
• Final selection: April2021
• Notification to the selected candidates: May2021
• Start of the One Planet Fellowship:  July 2021
