INBAR, jointly with the Government of Pakistan, is implementing a national bamboo sector development project in Pakistan. As part of this project, INBAR is looking for a consultant to provide technical support for set up country and user accounts on Bamboo mobile App for Pakistan; provide detailed training for selected forest and land use experts of Pakistan in mobile App based resource assessment (INBAR Bamboo Monitoring System); and handholding support for data collection, and analysis. 

I. Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with INBAR, Government of Pakistan focal point, software service provider to create and customise country accounts as per the requirement and functionalities of INBAR mobile APP and web server.
  • Conduct training for selected forest and land use experts on mobile based resource assessment APP (INBAR Bamboo Monitoring System) for a period of 2 days(class and field demonstration based training).
  • Using one of the bamboo regions of Pakistan as inventory site, trainees conduct on-farm bamboo resource inventory by receiving on site and direct supervision from the consultant for 4 days.
  • Provide training and handholding support for the trainees as well as web platform managers on synchronisation, analysis of data as well as management of web platform.
  • Support the focal point in planning for data collection.
  • Work closely with the Government of Pakistan in preparing a report on the on-farm bamboo resource availability in Pakistan based on the analysis and interpretation of data collection.
  • Provide brief recommendations for sustainable management and development of bamboo resources.

II. Key Deliverables

  • Inception report consisting of clearly designed work plan, comprising of travel plan, schedule of activities, training methodology and a table of content for draft report.
  • Well-functioning mobile APP and webserver system established for Pakistan.
  • Twenty-five experts trained for 1 week in App based bamboo resource assessment, recording and interpretation of the record.
  • On-farm bamboo resource inventory data collected with bamboo mobile App.
  • Report on (i) training (ii) inventory result and (iii) bamboo management recommendation.

III. Requirements

  • MSC or above in natural resource management, GIS/Remotes sensing, forestry, landuse and related fields.
  • Experience in forest or ecological resource inventory.
  • Experience in providing training in resource inventory using mobile App. Proven experience in Application based inventory and familiarity with the INBAR bamboo inventory mobile App will be an advantage.
