Paid Internship Opportunity: UNICEF Climate Change Innovation Portfolio.

Applications are open for a full-time internship position at UNICEF Climate Change Innovation Portfolio, Stockholm, Sweden, Office of Innovation ( Six months).

I. Key responsibilities:

  • Research support: the candidate will assist with collating, reviewing, and presenting research findings for both internal and external publication. As an example, the climate portfolio is currently finalising a research piece on UNICEF programming opportunities in the circular economy and plastic recycling space.
  • Innovation Challenge support: the candidate will assist with managing innovation challenges including support with framing and design of the challenge, selection process, provision of technical support to winning teams. As an example, the climate portfolio is currently providing technical support to three winning country offices teams (North Macedonia, Tanzania, Malaysia) of the recently run UNICEF-UNDP Green Shark Innovation Challenge.
  • Data management support: the candidate will assist with keeping the Climate Innovation Portfolio data updated on the global UNICEF innovation portal.
  • Drafting of documents: the candidate will support with drafting of concept notes, scope of works for joint partnerships, presentations to donors and partners. As an example, the climate portfolio is currently working on a concept note on innovation solutions for youth mental health crisis due to climate anxiety.

II. Eligibility

  • Be enrolled in an undergraduate, graduate or Ph.D. degree programme or have graduated within the past two years in at least one of the following areas:
    • International Relations studies,
    • Peace studies,
    • Environmental studies,
    • Environmental policies and/or technologies,
    • Innovation technologies
  • Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Have excellent academic performance as demonstrated by recent university or institution records.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language is an asset.
  • Have no immediate relatives (e.g. father, mother, brother, sister) working in any UNICEF office; and 
  • Have no other relatives in the line of authority which the intern will report to.

III. The candidate should have:

  • Experience in conducting and presenting research findings
  • Experience with managing/coordinating a project (considered an asset)
  • Experience with data analysis (especially through the use of a specialist software)
  • Experience with using Microsoft Office package (word, excel, power point, notes, teams)
  • The candidate must have good interpersonal skills (liaising with people of many different nationalities) and organizations skills

IV. Other information

  • Visa: UNICEF is not responsible for obtaining any – visas for internships.  However, UNICEF can provide a Note Verbale to respective Consulates, to support the application of Visas.
  • Insurance: The selected candidate must provide proof of health/accident insurance plan that covers them in the country of the assignment and for the entire duration of the assignment.   
  • UNICEF will not be responsible for costs arising from accidents and/or illness incurred during the intern’s service, whether on or off UNICEF premises. Employment: There is no expectancy of employment at the end of the internship.
  • Payment: The eligible intern will receive a monthly stipend as a contribution towards their living expenses and a one-time lump sum may be paid to interns recruited from outside the duty station to contribute towards expenses such as travel to and from the duty station, visa costs, etc., if the selected candidate is not in receipt of any non-/governmental funds.
