The Clinic of Small Animal Surgery and Reproduction offers an internship for graduated veterinarians.
The internship lasts at least 15 months and contains a rotation through all services including various sectors of small animal surgery, as reproduction, ophthalmology, intensive care, emergency service, anaesthesia and radiology, so that a substantial degree of basic training can be achieved. As part of the internship a dissertation should be made or a scientific study should be supervised.
I. Eligibility
- Veterinary degree
- No concluded promotion (no doctoral degree yet)
- Very good German language skills (written and spoken)
- English language skills are desirable
II. Benefits
- Apart from the daily work (working time 50 %) educational events are taking place in the afternoons.
- A journal-club under the supervision of a diplomate is taking place for the surgical residents on Tuesday and Wednesday evening. Selected topics are presented and discussed in English.
- The interns also have access to the faculties library.
- Several scientific journals are available over the universities internet access. A room for doctorates and interns, equipped with several computers, can be used when preparing cases for discussions or presentations.
- In the course of the internship each intern is given one month as off-time. This official spare time should be used for literature reading, working on the doctoral dissertation or making holiday
- People with disabilities who are equally as qualified as other applicants will receive preferential treatment.
III. How to apply?
- Candidates must send an application to the head of the clinic, which includes the following documents: i) Curriculum vitae, ii) Occupational goals iii) Record of study and credentials, iv) Veterinary diploma, and allowance to work as a veterinarian in Germany vi) Letter of recommendation (if available) vi) Photo
- The veterinary diploma needs to be officially translated into German.
- Candidates from abroad need to submit their residence permit or a visa valid for the duration of the internship program.
- These formalities should be taken care of in the candidates’ home country.
- The necessary invitational letter, which needs to be displayed at the administrative authorities, will be issued by the clinic after admission to the programme.
