AgDevCo is recruiting for an Impact Manager/Senior Impact Manager to join its Southern Africa team,in Cape Town office or in East Africa team in Nairobi.

The Impact  Manager/  Senior  Impact  Manager  sits  within  the  ESG  and  Impact  team  as  the  lead  on  operationalising all of AgDevCo’s impact measurement and management. This is a role with a lot of opportunity  for  creative  thinking  and  initiative.  You  would  get  exposure  to  AgDevCo’s  full  portfolio,  which means an excitingly diverse set of responsibilities across nine countries and multiple agricultural sub-sectors.

You  will  be  able  to  interact  with  stakeholders  within  our  investee  companies,  as  well  as  AgDevCo’s  Board  and  investors.  The  successful  candidate  will  be  confident  in  tailoring  their  communication  to  different audiences and have the ability to represent AgDevCo amongst senior stakeholders.

I. Responsibilities

The role involves managing all impact and gender equality work at AgDevCo, under the supervision of the Director of Impact and ESG. Responsibilities are as follows:

Impact Management Framework

  • To ensure all impact work, processes and methods are of a high standard and that AgDevCo is acknowledged as a leader in the agricultural impact field.
  • To develop and manage the infrastructure of the impact management system (both investment and TA); the theory of change, the measurement plan, and the relevant policies and processes.

Impact and Gender Equality Reporting

  • To design and deliver a reporting system which meets the expectations of AgDevCo board and its investors.
  • To manage the annual impact data collection and reporting process for all AgDevCo impact, gender equality, and diversity indicators, whilst co-ordinating with other relevant teams.

Impact Studies

  • To develop a research plan of studies AgDevCo will commission that satisfies all stakeholder expectations and meets the research needs outlined in the measurement plan (TA and investment).
  • To manage the procurement and delivery of all impact studies and ensure the appropriate level of rigour is met for all impact studies.

Due Diligence/Project Design

  • To develop and deliver a thorough impact and gender equality process through the deal and project cycle.
  • To ensure investment teams/TA teams are provided with the guidance they need to do the impact and gender equality part of deals and technical assistance projects.
  • To ensure the Impact and ESG Director is supported to provide IC and Board with any necessary information they need on impact and gender equality during investment decision making.

Impact Communications

  • To communicate our investment and TA impact to a wide range of stakeholders through a variety of means, including social media content, research reports, case studies, conference presentations and workshops.
  • To support AgDevCo’s communication work to ensure impact messaging is clear and consistent across internal and external communication.

 Capacity Building

  • To provide ongoing support to AgDevCo staff to develop their capacity in impact and gender-equality work.
  • To facilitate necessary external capacity building initiatives.
  • To mentor junior staff where appropriate.

Project Management

  • To ensure the impact plans are delivered on time and within budget each year.
  • To manage the contracts of any consultants or contracted parties.
  • To report to the Impact and ESG Director on progress against budgets and workplans.

II. Required Skills and Experience

  • Working with SME and larger companies in African countries or similar contexts.
  • Managing data collection for large and diverse portfolios, including data analysis, quality control, and reporting.
  • Developing impact theories of change/theses and helping teams to articulate their goals through impact indicators.
  • Managing research, ideally in developing countries.Skills and knowledge
  • Data management and analysis;
  • Monitoring and evaluation concepts and standards;
  • Research design, quantitative and qualitative;
  • Clear communication skills, including writing for different audiences;
  • Ability to play the role of a ‘critical friend’ and drive change;
  • Knowledge of business management, economics, or investments; and
  • Excellent project management capacity
