The International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) seeks to recruit a highly motivated and skilled Post-Doctoral Scientist - livestock sector Policy analysis and engagement to contribute to national and global level livestock sector economic and policy analysis.

The position is at job level HG 16 and will be based in Nairobi, Kenya.

I. Key Responsibilities

  • Support the development and implementation of national livestock master plans with policy and livestock investment analysis and facilitation of stakeholders engagement
  • Conduct livestock sector and national level economic and policy analysis
  • Contribute to developing a methodological approach for tracking and supporting livestock policy implementation in partner countries that have completed a LMP.
  • Contribute to the drafting of actionable and high-quality policy recommendations, technical reports and policy briefs on policy implementation.
  • Engage regional partners in policy dialogues with respect to livestock
  • Contribute to peer-reviewed publications and other relevant communication products

II. Requirements

  • PhD. in Economics, Agricultural Economics, or a closely related field
  • Hand on experience in stakeholder or policy engagement related to rural development/agriculture/livestock in LMICs
  • Strong skill in econometric software such as STATA and R.
  • Working knowledge of foresight/ex-ante economic impact quantitative agricultural/livestock sector analysis.
  • Track record of engagement in peer-reviewed publications
  • Familiarity with the context of livestock systems and sectors in developing countries
  • Excellent written and spoken English
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work well with a team
  • Proven ability to work independently and within strict deadlines
  • Ability to travel extensively to regional and international locations.

III. Terms of Appointment

  • This position is at job level HG 16 .
  •  The position is a two (2) year renewable contract subject to satisfactory performance and funding availability.
