 Location: Panama City, Panama

Terms of Employment: 12 months renewable, with four-month probation period. Salary ranging from US$2,100 – US$2,300 per month, commensurate with skills and experience.

 

 INBAR is seeking a highly capable project leader for the execution of the AECID-funded project Promote bamboo as a nature-based solution for livelihood development and environmental management for climate change mitigation and adaptation in Latin American and Caribbean Region, implemented in Panama, Cuba, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Colombia, Ecuador and Perú. The project goal is to promote South-South cooperation to face the challenges of climate change through bamboo as a nature-based solution.

I. Duties & Responsibilities

  • Execute the project and guarantee achievement of the targeted results, including setting and delivery of yearly work plans and performance targets
  • Lead the project team, assign duties and responsibilities, create a collaborative work environment for successful delivery of project goals
  • Recruit and manage short-term consultants
  • Develop strong working relations with INBAR’s focal points, partners, and all stakeholders in the beneficiary countries
  • Maintain an strong communication with INBAR’s Latin America and Caribbean Office (LAC) and ensure that project operations are in compliance with INBAR guidelines and standards
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual reports, importantly responsible for donor reporting
  • Establish a financial monitoring mechanism of the project in cooperation with INBAR’s Finance Team
  • Liaise and closely work with the Communication Specialists at INBAR LAC and INBAR HQ to share project outputs/outcomes
  • Contribute to and oversee the development of training materials and extension programmes
  • Provide technical and administrative support to the project team as well as to strategic partners during the execution of the project
  • Maintain the project monitoring and following up system to ensure execution of project activities as per the logical framework within the allocated budget and timeframe. Ensure issuing alerts to INBAR LAC regional office and INBAR HQ in case of delays or difficulties in the implementation of the project
  • Conduct and coordinate action-research to develop and adopt model for bamboo resource development and value chains for livelihoods and business development
  • Develop blogs, new articles, communication and knowledge products for publishing projects work in social media, websites, radio, video, electronic media, scientific journal papers, among others
  • Represent INBAR in local, national and international meeting, workshops and conferences as required
  • Work closely with the INBAR Regional Director for LAC related to administrative and operational issues and with the INBAR Director of Global Programs on technical issues.
  • Undertake other tasks reasonably required by your supervisor

II. Requirements

  • University degree in sustainable resource management, environmental science, agriculture, rural development, environmental economy or another related field. Postgraduate studies will be desirable.
  • Excellent oral and written expression in Spanish. Knowledge in written and spoken English.
  • A minimum of seven years of demonstrated experience in implementing livelihood and environment development projects, preferably with experience of working in Central America and the Caribbean Region
  • Proven ability to manage time well, prioritize, delegate, and work with a range of stakeholders
  • Expertise in one or more areas of natural resource management, including in the areas of conducting resource assessments, land restoration, training, and value chain development
  • Strong knowledge of participatory-based approaches and community development
  • Experience of working on bamboo or other non-timber forest product (NTFP) value chains
  • Experience on interacting with governmental institutions and international cooperation 
  • The successful candidate should be willing to undertake extensive travel inside the country base  and other countries participants, as well as to other places as required.
